Our Mission & Vision

Our vision and mission is to help connect people to faith

At Martintown Community Church, we believe in the power of connection. Our mission is to bridge the gap between church and home, creating an inclusive and welcoming space for all.

Mission & Purpose

The mission of the Martintown Community Church is simply the Great Commission given by Our Saviour Jesus Christ. It is the clear, unambiguous statement of Jesus to the church’s mission to the world. Our task as the gathered body of Christ is to make disciples, by bearing witness to Jesus Christ the Son in the power of the Holy Spirit to glory of God the Father.

Our Pastor: Kevin Cernek

With a rich background in ministry of over 30 years, Pastor Kevin is an integral part of Martintown Community Church. His unwavering commitment to connecting church and home has created a welcoming and Christ centered space for all.

Pastor Kevin leads with a strong belief in the ultimate truth spoken directly through the Word of God, unadulterated and true throughout the ages. That only through our acceptance and relationship with God’s only Son Jesus Christ, may we be washed of our sins and truely worthy of God’s wonderful Grace upon us and eternal life in Heaven with our awesome Creator. Together, we strive to make disciples and bear witness to Jesus Christ, embarking on an extraordinary journey of faith and connection.

Standing along-side Kevin is his beautiful and wonderful wife Cindy who’s great-great-great grandfather was Nathaniel Martin. Nathaniel Martin not only founded  the town that bears his name, but built the church that MCC still meets in today! Read more about the history of Martintown below.

History of Martintown
(Village of)

In 1849, Edward S HANCHETT obtained a right of Cyrus WOODMAN, to improve a water power on the Pecatonica river, at the point were Martin is now located. In the spring of 1850, Nathaniel MARTIN came and joined Mr. HANCHETT in the enterprise.

Nathaniel MARTIN, of the village of Martin, in the town of Cadiz, was born in West Virginia, in 1816. He was married to Hannah STRADER, daughter of Jacob STRADER, an early settler in Stephenson Co., Ill. In 1868. Mr. MARTIN laid out the village, having it surveyed.

J. W. MITCHELL kept the first store in the village after it was platted.

The postoffice at Martin was established in 1865. The first postmaster was William HODGES, who was succeeded by Mrs. Mary Ann TYLER. She was succeeded by W. W. WRIGHT.

Can anyone take Communion/Lord’s Supper?

There are no manditory class or age requirements to partake in Communion/Lord’s Supper. We do however believe that doing so is a serious matter, not to be taken lightly or without thought. If you have questions about this or anything else, please feel free to reach out to Pastor Kevin Cernek or an Elder.

Is there a way to participate in the Thursday Bible Study remotely?

Although we encourage everyone who can to be there for the important fellowship which strengthens our bonds to one another and encourages growth, we understand not everyone can be there. So we do provide anyone who needs it, the ability to join via Zoom. Please feel free to reach out to Pastor Kevin Cernek in advance, so that he can email the lesson outline and a Zoom link to join.
